Cannabis and Coronary Artery Disease

Researchers looked into "the causal association of genetic liability to cannabis use disorder and risk of CAD (cornary artery disease)." They found that "frequent but not occasional cannabis use was associated with an increased risk of CAD" and that "In MR (Mendelian Randomization) analysis, CUD, but not occasional use was associated with CAD, independent of tobacco use."


This CNN piece quotes Dr. Ishan Paranjpe, one of the study authors:


"A growing body of evidence suggests that cannabis is not entirely without harm and may actually cause cardiovascular disease."


"Thus, the decision to use cannabis must be carefully weighed against the potential for serious heart disease."
