Using data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, these researchers previously found that maternal prenatal use of cannabis after awareness of pregnancy is associated with increased incidence of psychopathology in middle childhood.

Looking at longitudinal date from the ABCD study researchers observed that the increased incidence of psychopathology continued into adolescence. Researchers note that this persistent increase in psychopathology "may lead to greater risk for psychiatric disorders and problematic substance use as children enter peak periods of vulnerability in later adolescence."
